Frequently asked questions
Selecting a care home comes with many questions. Here are answers to the most common ones about daily life, safety and our approach to care.
The home employs an Activities Organiser, who coordinates activities such as games, arts & crafts, baking, bingo and sing-songs. We also have weekly Zumba fitness and chair exercises. Residents always have the choice of whether or not to participate.
Yes — a variety of singers visit at least monthly, and entertainment is a regular part of our social calendar.
There are monthly outings to "Singing for the Brain" and to Leigh Bowling Club. Throughout the year there are other outings such as canal boat trips on the "Rose of Parbold", Blackpool Illuminations and carol services at Christmas. We're always open to suggestions for where to go on our days out!
Residents are encouraged to treat Blackrod House as their own home — therefore visitors are welcome at any time.
There is always sufficient staff on duty to meet the needs of the residents — normally six during the day and three at night. We also participate in an apprenticeship scheme; the apprentices are extra to the usual staff numbers.
Blackrod House provides high-quality residential and dementia care in a comfortable, supportive environment, with personalised care plans agreed with each resident and their family.
